The Wonders of Onion


Do you know  Onion curing effect?

They say Onion has this anti bacterial,  anti septic properties that can cure some illnesses. Read on.





A friend of mine told me a story about when he was a kid and he was in hospital, nearly dying.  His grandmother came to the hospital and told a family member to go buy her a large onion and a new pair of white cotton socks.  She sliced the onion open then put a slice on the bottom of each of his feet and put the white cotton socks on him.  In the morning, when he awoke they removed the socks.  The slices of onion were black and his fever was gone.  The following story that someone sent to me might have some truth in it and we are going to try it this winter.

In 1191, when the flu killed 40 million people there as this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flue.  Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy.  When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then).  The doctor couldn’t believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope.   Se gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flue virus in the onion.  It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ.  She said that several years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flue and so were many of her customers.  The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop.  To her surprise, non of her staff got sick. It must work.. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

The moral of the story is , buy some onions and place them, in bowls around your home.  If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere.  Try it and see what happens. We did it last and we never got flu.

For flu cure: cut both ends off an onion, put one end on a fork and then place the forked end into an empty jar.. placing the jar next to the sick patient at night.  It said the onion would be black in the morning from germs ,..sure enough it  happened just like that.. the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

Onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

One more thing, never store cut onions and consume the next day.

This is a really effective, just mix green papaya cubes to the ordinary green tea, my friend tried and found it very effective.
I have also shared with a friend with gout to try this (his "toe joints" started to deform).  After a week of drinking this formula there is significant improvement, and after two weeks the toe joints heal and revert to normal state.

It is almost three years now, the 
joint pain is gone, but he maintains the intake between 1-3 times monthly to avoid relapse.
Other friends suffering from years of gout problem have also recovered.
It is good for all, even those without gout.

The story goes that a Mr. Liu Qing, Chief of the Rende Town in Tainan, was suffering for years from severe stomach pain around the posterior wall of stomach.
He used green papaya as a tea pot to prepare the family tea daily, after a month, his chronic disease condition was much improved.
His family members with high uric acid were also healed by the same papaya tea.
For this Mr. Liu planted a lot of papaya to share with relatives and friends with similar sickness.

According to Mr. Liu, in selecting the green papaya as tea pot, pick those the shape of which is fat and short, with larger capacity. 

Cut off the top part of the papaya, clear away the seeds, open a small hole at the upper side wall to facilitate pouring of tea. 

Create a small ventilation hole at top cover, put in the tea leaves, pour in boiling water, place the top cover back onto the papaya, you may also use the toothpicks to secure the top cover. 

Similar to normal process of preparing tea.
Liu like to use Oolong tea as the taste is good. 

He was pleasantly surprised that the stomach pains he suffered for many years was healed after a month of drinking tea from the green papaya pot, without taking any other medication. 

He passed some green papaya leaves to a friend who worked at a Medical Center to test and analyse the content. 

The tests confirmed that the healthy enzyme present in papaya is beneficial to human health.

Now as papaya in Mr. Liu's orchard is yielding suitable size fruits, he would share the fruits with family and friends.

Xu Fuchang, an experienced papaya farmer, said green papaya means to unripe papaya, where the skin is still green in colour.
Generally, the papaya takes about four months to fully mature and ripen, but the healing effect would be lost after it is fully ripe.

Green papaya should be harvested when the papaya is approximately three months old, when the fruit is still firm, and the "papaya milk" contains high papaya enzyme and other healthy ingredients.

Not only the green papaya can be used in tea drinking, you may also cut them into cubes, and boil with the ribs, or even slicing the green papaya into fine long pieces and fried with garlic, very tasty, and no adverse effects on the human body.

So this story goes on and if you have the same illness above, why not try this out.  After all, it is just a fruit, papaya with green tea leaves.

Dengue Fever

Dengue fever is a common illness , especially in the tropical countries. What Is Dengue Fever? A lot of people is ignorant about Dengue, and the symptoms that come with it when someone is inflicted with dengue. According to Wikipedia, " Dengue fever, also known as breakbone fever, is an infectious tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash that is similar to measles. In a small proportion of cases the disease develops into the life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome, where dangerously low blood pressure occurs. Dengue is transmitted by several species of mosquito within the genus Aedes, principally A. aegypti. The virus has four different types; infection with one type usually gives lifelong immunity to that type, but only short-term immunity to the others. Subsequent infection with a different type increases the risk of severe complications. As there is no vaccine, prevention is sought by reducing the habitat and the number of mosquitoes and limiting exposure to bites. Treatment of acute dengue is supportive, using either oral or intravenous rehydration for mild or moderate disease, and intravenous fluids and blood transfusion for more severe cases. The incidence of dengue fever has increased dramatically since the 1960s, with around 50–100 million people infected yearly. Early descriptions of the condition date from 1779, and its viral cause and the transmission were elucidated in the early 20th century. Dengue has become a global problem since the Second World War and is endemic in more than 110 countries. Apart from eliminating the mosquitoes, work is ongoing on a vaccine, as well as medication targeted directly at the virus " Dengue fever is extremely fatal, with no known cure, except to leave it to the own body defense system to strengthen its defense and recover. I have seen many families who lost 2 or 3 members of the family within a short span. One day, I found out that the wife of my immediate neighbours was hospitalised due to dengue. 2 days later, she passed away because of the virus. How sad and pitiful that even doctor and hospital cannot do anything.
Last week, someone send me an email article about KIWI Fruit or Kiwifruit that its juice can cure Dengue fever. And it came like below; " KIWI Juice - for dengue fever Something to share. My husband and I just recover from dengue, my husband symptom is a bit different from me. My husband dengue system is high fever, shivering, nausea, rashes, body pain, while my symptom is high fever, vomit, shivering, body pain and bad rashes. The biggest difference is that my pallet did not drastically drop but my husband pallet drop until 18 and the doctor had to do transfusion. All advices came from friend and family to try to help increase my husband pallet, crab soup and etc but all this didn't work. Until one day, one of the nurses told us to drink Kiwi Juice. Luckily, during dinner time, the hospital serve Kiwi juice for my husband and slice of Kiwi fruit for me. The next day, my hubby pallet increase to 82 and my pallet increase from 150 to 169. And the doctor allowed us to discharge. Actually, I was not really well, the next 2 days I do blood test again and my pallet drop again to 141. The doctor was quite surprise and told me if I still feel weak, and wanted me to be admitted again. My husband bought for me Kiwi juice and force me to drink. Luckily after 2 days, my pallet increase to 300. Another fresh story, my husband's aunty was also infected with dengue fever. Her pallet dropped to 76. I bought her Kiwi juice and the next day, her pallet increase to 170 and the doctor allow her to discharge. The reason for this eamil is to share the miracle of Kiwi juice, and please share this email with friends, especially kids...." So you might never know that this knowledge might come handy when we have this same symptom. For those who loves Kiwi fruit or Kiwi juice, this is another good side of Kiwi juice as treatment for dengue fever.

How To Drink Tea

Drinking Tea is a tradition of both the eastern and western culture.  To the East,  we have the Chinese Tea, the Japanese Tea.  To the Western culture, we hear of the High Tea,  where the variety of western tea are served.  Again aside from these general categorization, there are many other different variation.

Sometimes,  we are told that the caffeine content in tea is higher than coffee, but I know a lot of people have the mistaken idea that coffee contains higher caffeine.    But for today,  my question is about where we are drinking the right tea.  Apparently, different tea serves at different time, can have a different effect, and the important thing is that we are drinking the right tea.  So the next time you want to drink tea, perhaps, you can consider what I have to say in the following, before you order the type of tea, and not just base on your liking or dislikes. 

The following was being told,  and I am not sure how true this is.  Perhaps, you can try it out as it does not pose any side-effect.  But like anything else,  we must be moderate in the consumption, as excessive indulgence will also bring about some side effect. 

Point 1  - People who use their "brain" to work or students who study hard day and night - should drink more chrysanthemum tea

Point 2 - People who need a lot of body energy to work or those people that do a lot of exercise everyday - should drink Wu Loong Tea (a type of Chinese Tea)

Point 3 - People who travel on a bike or work in dirty and polluted places - should drink Green Tea

Point 4 - For people who likes to sit down all day long and not doing anything even exercising - must drink Green Tea and Flower Tea

Point 5 - People who smoke and drink a lot of alcoholic drinks - should drink more Green Tea

Point 6 - Carnivore, i.e. those who must eat meat at least once a day, or feel sick or not feeling well - try to drink some Wu Loong Tea

Point 7 - People who go to the washroom too often or too less - should drink more Honey Tea

Point 8 - People with high cholesterol and high blood pressure - should drink Wu Loong Tea or Green Tea

Point 9 - Those who work with computers everyday - need to drink a lot of Tea (any tea will do)

Whenever you are working with the computer, you should make some tea, drink it when you are free.  Drinking tea is healthy, it can protect and prevent the harmful Ultraviolet light from harming you i.e. when using the computer. 

Furthermore, it cal also cure us when we are tired and help making our body feel fresh again.

What is Good Coffee

Believe it or not, Drinking Coffee with milk or sugar is good for you. This is DRINK for thought!
(Minus the cream, milk and sugar) I am a frequent coffee drinker, was used to drinking several cups of coffee a day. Office workers would probably attest to that the a meeting with coffee is not really complete. We are so used to drinking the local coffee, Nescafe two in one, or three in one. However a recent internet article that apparently stemmed from one name, Sylvia Booth Hubbard, Newsmax goes like this; "For many years, coffee was considered a vice, linked with sleepless nights and cigarettes. But scientists have discovered that coffee contains potent antioxidant that can fight numerous ailments, including heart disease and diabetes. According to the American Coffee Association, 54% of Americans drink coffee on a daily basis, and they drink, on average, over 3 cups each. The diseases coffee can benefit include; Dementia - Drinking moderate amounts of coffee during middle age, classified as 3 to 5 cups daily, can decrease the risk of dementia by 65%, according to a 2009 study by Swedish and Finnish researchers. Liver disease - In those who drink too much alcohol, those who drank the most coffee, more than 4 cups very day, reduced their risk of developing alcoholic cirrhosis by 80% . Heart disease - Research associated with the Nurses Health Study, found that women who drank 2 - 3 cups of coffee daily had a 25% lower risk of dying from heart disease. Along the same line, a Spanish study found that men who drank more than 5 cups of coffee each day lowered their dying from heart disease by 44% and that women who drank 4 - 5 cups each day reduced their risk by 34%. Prostate cancer - A recent study from Harvard Medical School found that men who drank the most coffee slashed their risk of developing the fastest growing and most difficult to treat prostate cancers by more than half when compared to men who drank no coffee. Gout - Drinking 4 or more cups of coffee each day dramatically reduces the incidence of gout, say US. and Canadian researchers. Men who drank 4 - 5 cups daily lowered their risk by 40%, and those who drank 6 or more cups daily reduced their risk of developing gout by 59% when compared to men who didn't drink coffee. Breast Cancer - coffee can either reduce the risk of developing breast cancer or delay its onset, according to Swedish studies. They found that coffee alters a woman's metabolism and produces a safer balance of estrogen. Women who drank 2 or 3 cups of coffee a day reduced their cancer risk by as much as two-thirds, depending on the specific type of breast cancer. Diabetes - Enjoying 6 or more cups of coffee daily can cut chances of Type 2 diabetes by 54% in men and 30% in women over those who don't drink coffee. Parkinson's disease - Several studies show that drinking coffee lowers a man's risk of developing Parkinson's up to 80% - and the more the better. Colon cancer - A Japanese report found that women who drank 3 or more cups of coffee every day slashed their risk of developing colon cancer in half. What's responsible for coffee's healthy benefits? Most researchers believe it's the antioxidant ( polyphenol or flavonoid ) in coffee, but there are hundreds of compounds in coffee that may be partially responsible. So bear in mind, Drinking coffee - minus the milk and sugar, does have its health and benefits.

Watercress - The Miracle Food

Watercress is called "sai yeong choy" in cantonese. It is infact one of my favorite vegetable, which I enjoy as soup. Sai yeong choy is popularly used by the chinese to boil as soup, and taste extremely good when consume slowly in extremely hot serving. In the later part of the years, I came across some serving Watercress as fried vegatable which I enjoy equally. However, when you fry it, you must use the young shoot which will be crispy and easy to bite in.



Now I came across this scientific discovery article to share with you. The articles reads as follows;

"UK Scientists say watercress is the new super food, able to prevent certain types of cancer. According to a study published this week in the British Journal of Nutrition, the consumption of a three ounce portion of watercress reduced the presence of a key tumor growth factor six and and eight hours after eating the watercress in healthy patients who had previously been treated for breast cancer.

The study was conducted by the Cancer Research Center at the School of Medicine, Soputhamption General Hospital in the United Kingdom. The study concluded watercress is as therapeutic as traditional drug treatments with tamoxifen and herceptin, commonly used chemotherapy drugs.

The study also said that through regular consumption, watercress "has the potential to confer valuable protection against cancer in general." Watercress has the ability to turn off HIF 1, a signal sent out by cells calling for blood supply," said noted aging scientist Dr. Nicholas Perricon. When HIF1 becomes incorrectly regulated, otherwise harmless precancerous clusters of cells have the opportunity to grow to form invasive tumors. "Scientists have been looking for anti-angiogenesis agents for years because if we can turn off the blood supply, we can kill the cancer," said Perricone. "And it looks like watercress can do that."

Another study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in February 2007 showed that, in addition to reducing DNA damage, a daily dose of watercress increased the ability of cells to further resist DNA damage that may be caused by free radicals.

In thre study, 60 men and women, half of whom were smokers, consumed their usual diet plus 85 grams of raw watercress daily for eight weeks. Blood samples were analyzed for plasma antioxidant status and DNA damage in lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. Watercress consumption significantly reduced lymphocyte DNA damage.

In the time of the Romans, Greeks and Persians watercress was used as a natural medicine, prescribed for migraines, anemia, eczema, kidney and liver disorder and tuberculosis.

So don't know what soup to cook for the family? Make it watercress soup once a week"

I would strongly recommend you try this if you have not taken watercress soup before. One thing I can be sure is that I have been taking watercress since childhood and it is cheap and easy to obtain in a lot of places. And while consuming is as part of food, it brings in these miracle value that the scientists now say.

Healing and Cleansing with Barley

Ever wonder the healing and cleansing power with barley.  
From an early age,  my mother has always been boiling barley soup at home and  drinking barley soup has been a regular affair at home.  

High in fibre, barley is also a kidney cleanser. Better yet, regular intake of it helps  prevent heart disease. BARLEY water was always a regular drink  when we were still living at home. Whenever we had to go for a medical exam that included a urine test, my mum would make us drink barley water a day before it to make sure we got a positive result!



My mother was a wise woman. I later found out from an Australian naturopath that barley is known to be a kidney cleanser, and he happily downed glasses of it at a meal we had in a coffee-shop here.

Barley is good for your intestinal health too. Try to eat the barley grains you find in your drink or sweet broth with fu chook (beancurd skin) and ginkgo nuts.

It's high in fibre which feeds the friendly bacteria in the colon and helps speed up the transit of fecal matter in it. In this way it helps prevent haemorrhoids and colon cancer.

The propionic acid and beta glucan from barley's insoluble fibre also help lower cholesterol and prevent the formation of gallstones.

Eating barley regularly is a preventive step against heart disease as, besides the fibre content, it is also high in niacin, a B vitamin good for lowering cholesterol.

Diabetics should eat more barley as the fibre will prevent blood sugar levels from rising too high. It also provides relief from constipation or diarrhoea for those suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Barley is rich in selenium which prevents cancer and relieves symptoms of asthma and arthritis. It is a good source of manganese, copper and phosphorous.

Malt sugar comes from sprouted barley which, when fermented, is an ingredient in beer and other alcoholic beverages.

Barley, whose Latin name is hordeum vulgare, has been cultivated for more than 10,000 years.

Since ancient times, barley has been used for healing purposes and has been known to the Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Athletes in
Greece and Rome in those days were known to eat barley bread to give them strength.

Besides the usual things we do with barley, I enjoy having it in a western soup. The larger pearl barley is used and I love the sticky bite of it. Here's a recipe for barley soup:

Barley soup with roasted garlic

1 cup pearl barley
5 cloves whole garlic, roasted
2 litres chicken stock, steeped from 1 chicken breast simmered in three litres water
2 tbsps vegetable oil
2 large onions, diced
2 carrots, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
150g turkey ham, cut up
1 tsp ground white pepper
1 tsps sea salt or to taste
1 tbsp chopped parsley

 Method
 1. Wash barley and soak it in a bowl of water for three hours. Drain.

2. Heat oil in pan and fry onions. Add carrots and celery, then the barley and fry for three minutes.

3. Add chicken stock, pepper and roasted garlic and simmer over low heat for at least an hour, or until barley is soft.

4. Add salt to taste and serve the soup garnished with chopped parsley.

Simple Cure for Cancer

The following came through my mail last week.  Given that we hear of so many cases of people afflicted with cancer,  I think it is good idea to spread this.


There is nothing to lose in trying this,. when everything seem lost.


The message begins; 

Three types of asparagus on a shop display, with white asparagus at the back and green asparagus in the middle. The plant at the front is Ornithogalum pyrenaicum, is commonly called wild asparagus,




Several years ago, I had a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer. He gave me aphotocopied copy of an article,entitled,`Asparagus for cancer ' printed in Cancer NewsJournal, December 1979.



I will share it here, just as it was shared with me: 'I am a biochemist,and have specialized in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years.

Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R.Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked with him on his project.. We have accumulated a number of favourable case histories.
Here are a few examples: 


Case No. 1,
A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin's disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise.

Case No. 2,
A successful businessman 68 years old who suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments,including radiation without improvement, he went on asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.

Case No. 3,
A man who had lung cancer. On March 5th 1971, he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the asparagus therapy and immediately started taking it. By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared. He is back at his regular business routine. *

*Case No. 4,
A woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She finally developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by asking specialist as advanced. Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and nomore skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus.

 
I was not surprised at this result, as `The elements of Materia Medica', edited in 1854 by a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania , stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones. He even referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones.

We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records. I am therefore appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and natural remedy. For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using, and therefore canned asparagus is just as good as fresh.

I have corresponded with the two leading canners of asparagus, Giant Giant and Stokely, and I am satisfied that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives.


* * PROCEDURE:

1) Place the cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree, and store in the refrigerator.

2) Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening.

Patients usually show some improvement in from 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink. This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases.

As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that `what cures can prevent'. Based on this theory, my wife and I have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with our meals. We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold.

For years we have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular checkups.

The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to nothing but the asparagus drink...

As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed cures. As a result, I am convinced that asparagus fits in better with the latest theories about cancer. Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which are believed to be active in controlling cell growth. For that reason, I believe asparagus can be said to contain a substance that I call cell growth normalizer. That accounts for its action on cancer and inacting as a general body tonic. In any event, regardless of theory, asparagus used as we suggest, is a harmless substance.

The FDA cannot prevent you from using it and it may do you much good.. It has been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing glutathione, which is considered one of the body's most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants.

I don't know about you.  But it is just vegetables, and does not add more harm.  So I think I would try this out as a preventive measure.
